Materials

The material register

The finishes in the register are a powder-coated metal frame on the ranges that have one, oiled teak, a quick-dry foam core and a solution-dyed acrylic cover. What follows is the register rather than a description of it. Each finish carries its state and what that state rests on, including the ones nobody has held yet.

Frame finish

Architectural outdoor powder coat. Ink is the launch colour; Bronze and Cloud are named after it.

Timber

Weave · the specified range

Sunbrella, distributed here by Kayan. Ten of the two hundred and twenty fabrics in the catalogue on file, chosen against this palette rather than by name — a scale from the palest to the darkest, with one dry sage that reads as planting rather than as colour. The SKU is printed because it is what a fabricator orders against.

18 of these finishes are marked NOT SAMPLED, and there are two different reasons for it. A brand finish so marked — Bronze, Cloud, Walnut, Natural, Aged, Weathered, Sand, Graphite — is a name chosen with nothing ever made in it, and the colour beside it is an approximation sitting inside this palette. A specified weave so marked is a real Sunbrella fabric with a real code, and its colour was measured off the printed page of the catalogue rather than off cloth.

Neither can be posted as a sample: there is no cloth or spray-out yet to send, which is the entire reason a sample is posted rather than shown on a screen for the finishes that have one. Either can still be chosen in the configurator and named on a quote. The specified range settles when the tender does.

The coating is an architectural outdoor grade. Its film thickness is a figure a fabricator commits to, and none has been appointed, so the register carries no row for it rather than the number written in the brief for one to meet.

What is not settled: the alloy, and how the frame is put together. Steel and aluminium are being quoted side by side and no choice has been made, so the register carries no row for either. Salt spray, ultraviolet performance and a warranty term will be printed here when there is a certificate behind them and not before.
